Advocacy and Education

EDUCATION
A critical part of eliminating hunger is educating the public about its causes and assistance available.    People do not go hungry because they are lazy.  People are hungry due to lack of resources and not knowing where to turn for help.  Harvest Texarkana can provide speakers to your church or civic organization, club, or other group of concerned citizens.  We'll explain who is hungry, why they're hungry and what you can do to help.   Give us a call to schedule a speaker today.

Each year, Harvest Texarkana hosts the Hunger Action Luncheon.  This is an opportunity to learn about the face of hunger in Texarkana and the Ark-La-Tex region.  Speakers include representatives from local agencies who see hunger first hand, local legislator speaking about what is being done from a policy stand point, and local volunteers and business people speaking about what they have committed to do to help those in need.

ADVOCACY
Harvest Texarkana encourages our citizens to get involved in the legislative process.  Speak up to your representatives, locally, statewide and nationally, and demand attention for hunger relief programs, job training, and other programs to end the cycle of poverty and hunger.  If interested in staying on top of the latest action, we recommend you sign up for the email newsletters at arhungeralliance.org .  Regular updates are provided when key legislation is being planned or debated in Arkansas as well as Washington DC.

Become familiar with your representative's position on hunger relief and make your voices hear through phone calls and emails to their offices.  Make sure they know that you do not find it acceptable that 1 in 6 of your neighbors will be hungry tonight.  Learn More
