Disaster Relief

Harvest Texarkana began its Food Bank program as a response to Hurricane Katrina.  With so many evacuees throughout the southern US, Texarkana agencies could not rely on food banks in other cities to provide hunger relief for those fleeing the storm in Texarkana.  So Harvest Texarkana began providing and managing hunger relief to these residents as well as the hungry from this area.  From that storm, a 5 million a year distribution has grown.

Harvest Texarkana continues to be prepared for disasters no matter their scale or what their impact on Texarkana may be.  We maintain stocks of beverages for immediate distribution to relief workers and victims.  Additionally, we can mobilize to provide mobile food relief to disaster sites or local food pantries.  As a member of Feeding America, Harvest Texarkana can access strategically stored stockpiles of emergency supplies as well as networks of assistance providing manufacturers and distributors when needed for large scale disasters.

As a member of the Texarkana Office of Emergency Management, Harvest Texarkana is in direct relationship with local Red Cross chapters and other disaster relief programs in our service area.  Our resources are built into the various plans in place to handle any major (or minor) disaster.
